A congressional staffer for U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales has died after being found on fire just outside her home in Uvalde, sparking an investigation by local police and the Texas Rangers.

Authorities identified the victim as Regina Santos-Aviles, 35, who served as Gonzales’ Regional District Director. First responders discovered her this past weekend, but investigators say there are no signs of foul play at this point. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.

Congressman Gonzales released a statement calling Santos-Aviles “a dedicated public servant who loved her community and worked tirelessly for the people of South and West Texas.”

The Uvalde Police Department and Texas Rangers continue to investigate the incident.
