Some people think they have to choose between being at work and going out to vote. But, that is not the case in Texas and 27 other states.
The law says your bosses have to let you have some time off during a work day, under certain conditions. In Texas, if the polls are open from 7 to 7 on Election Day, and you work a 9 to 5-hour job, you don't get time off. The law says you can vote in the two hours before work, or the two hours after work.
If the worker has 7 to 7 hours, that worker is allowed to take paid time off to vote. Companies can also tell workers when is a good time to go vote during the work day, as long as it's reasonable.
This only applies to Election Day itself, not early voting.
