Well, if you can put up with two more days of heat advisories, we've got a little bit of a break on the way this weekend. A weak cold front arrives early Saturday, and if you're one of the lucky ones, you might even wake up to a little rain on your windshield—or some much-needed watering for the lawns. Cooler temperatures will follow for the weekend before the heat starts building back in next week.

It's another warm, muggy start with temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. Yesterday we actually underachieved; DFW Airport topped out at only 99 degrees. Today will be a different story as highs climb back to around 101 to 102 degrees, and heat advisories are once again in effect.
If you're working outdoors, make sure you stay hydrated, take frequent breaks, and avoid overexertion during the hottest part of the day. And as always, beat the heat—check the back seat for children and pets. Inside a vehicle, temperatures can soar well above 120 degrees in minutes.
Friday will be a repeat performance, although we'll have a few more clouds around. Even so, temperatures are expected to reach around 104 degrees. The record high is 106 degrees, so we'll be watching closely to see how it all plays out. Either way, it's going to be another brutal day, so take the heat seriously.
Now for the good news...
That cold front has slowed down just a bit and is now expected to arrive Saturday morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will develop across Oklahoma late Friday afternoon and evening, then gradually work their way south after midnight. If you're lucky, you'll wake up Saturday morning to wet roads. If you have to head into work early, allow yourself a little extra travel time.
Saturday will feature more clouds than sunshine, with about a 30% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly shifting south of Interstate 20 by the afternoon. With clouds and a north wind gusting to around 20 mph, afternoon highs will struggle to get above 95 degrees.
Behind the front, much drier air filters into North Texas. Saturday night and Sunday morning will actually feel pretty pleasant for early August, with upper 60s along the Red River and low to mid-70s across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
Sunday through Tuesday looks great by August standards. Highs will stay in the mid to upper 90s, a couple of degrees below average, and the lower humidity will be especially noticeable during the afternoons.
Unfortunately, the break won't last. High pressure builds back over North Texas by the middle of next week, sending temperatures back into the triple digits by Wednesday or Thursday.
