Tracking Tropical Storm Edouard

Tracking Tropical Storm Edouard

TROPICAL STORM EDOUARD + A CHANCE FOR RAIN IN DFW!

Good Tuesday morning, everyone! I hope you had a great Monday, and welcome to Tuesday!

I’m closely tracking Tropical Storm Edouard this morning, and I’m also praying that we can finally squeeze out some much-needed rain here across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, especially from late Wednesday into the first half of Thursday.

We’re waking up to mainly clear skies across North Texas, with temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s and a light south wind. Nothing is showing up on radar right now.

TROPICAL STORM EDOUARD

As of 4:00 a.m., Edouard had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, making it a minimal tropical storm. The National Hurricane Center is watching for the possibility of some quick strengthening before landfall later today. It could potentially reach around 60 mph before making landfall near the Beaumont-Port Arthur area along the Upper Texas Coast.

Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect along portions of the Upper Texas Coast, and Flood Watches are also in effect through later today and into early Wednesday.

Dangerous rip currents and 2–3 feet of storm surge are also possible along the coast as Edouard moves inland.

Once inland, Edouard will gradually weaken as it moves northwest and then turns more northward Wednesday into Thursday. The storm will run into an area of upper-level high pressure east of Texas, which should help weaken the system.

SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR NORTH TEXAS?

An isolated shower or storm today is unlikely, but our rain chances increase Wednesday and especially Thursday.

I’m watching the period from after midnight Wednesday through about 2 p.m. Thursday as our best opportunity for rain across the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Remember, DFW Airport has now gone 47 DAYS without measurable rainfall! And some of you may have gone even longer in your backyard.

We could also see considerably more cloud cover tomorrow, which would help knock temperatures down.

TEMPERATURES

  • Tuesday: Around 97°
  • Wednesday: Around 97° with increasing clouds
  • Thursday: Around 95° with scattered showers and storms possible
  • Friday: Back into the upper 90s
  • Weekend: Around 101°

And with increasing humidity, the heat index could run 5–6 degrees higher during the afternoon.

I’m hoping Edouard can throw us a little moisture and give some of North Texas a much-needed drink. We desperately need it.

Have a great Tuesday, everyone! Enjoy the weather when you can — it’s the only weather you’ve got!
