Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass told KNX News’ Craig Fiegener she has met with the owner of the company that wants to buy the graffiti towers in downtown L.A.
“I met with him a couple of months ago, and if things progress, top of mind for me is get the towers covered as opposed to clearing off the graffiti and cover it in a spectacular way,” she said. “I can see the rings of the Olympics or the angels from the Olympics being there. It could be a fabulous display while we're waiting for things to happen.”
On Monday, KPC Group, an Inland Empire-based company, announced it will ask a bankruptcy judge for permission to buy the towers.
The towers, once part of a high-rise project known as the Oceanwide Plaza luxury development, have been around since 2019. The developer went bankrupt, and the towers stayed, eventually becoming a fixture of taggers.
