The California Department of Public Health announced that proof of COVID-19 vaccinations or a negative COVID-19 test will be required before a large, indoor gathering where 1,000 or more people are attending.

This will be implemented on September 20.

Health officials say the COVID-19 tests must be negative within 72 hours prior to the start of the event.

“The Delta variant has proven to be highly transmissible, making it easier to spread in large crowds where people are near each other for long periods of time,” said Dr. Tomás J. Aragón, CDPH Director and State Public Health Officer.

“By requiring individuals to be vaccinated, or test negative for COVID-19 at large events, we are decreasing the risk of infection, hospitalization and death.”

Health officials say this mandate will be in effect until November 1.
