Airport police and firefighters carried around firefighting boots around Hollywood Burbank Airport on Friday to collect money for TSA employees who are going without paychecks due to the partial government shutdown.
KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that officers and firefighters planned to take the money and turn it into a stack of gas cards to give to TSA employees.
“I mean, times are hard,” an officer told Baird. “Gas prices are up, so we're just trying to help them out while they're showing up to work, working for free.”
A passenger named Emily couldn’t wait to donate.
“Well, because I feel bad for the TSA people, and they have families, they have to eat and who wants to come to work and not get paid?” she told Baird.
Baird reported that the Police Officers Association contributed $1,500 for gas cards.
