Finishing touches are being done on an experimental new supersonic plane designed by NASA.

The aircraft, called the X-59, is designed to make a quieter sonic boom than its other supersonic cohorts.

The loud noise is a major reason why there haven’t been any new commercial supersonic airliners since the Concorde, a European-made plane, retired 20 years ago.

It was built at the famous Lockheed Martin Skunk Works complex in Palmdale, but has now been moved to a painting facility.

Its first test flight is scheduled for early next year.
