THERMAL (CNS) - Two students were detained today in connection with an apparent threat that forced the evacuation of three Thermal schools.

At 10:10 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to the area of Avenue 66 and Tyler Street on a report of a threat at Toro Canyon Middle School, Sgt. Brandi Swan from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department told City News Service.

Las Palmitas Elementary School, Toro Canyon Middle School and Desert Mirage Middle School were all evacuated, with buses brought in to carry students off campus to be reunited with parents.

The nature of the threat was not immediately specified. Swan said two students were detained in connection with the alleged threat, but no injuries were reported.

Coachella Valley Unified School District board member Jocelyn Vargas wrote on social media during the evacuation that parents should not be ``alarmed.''

``We are following the directions of the sheriff's department as a precaution,'' she said. ``There have been no incidents but we are following all measures to keep all students safe. The district is sending directions to parents on where they can pick up their students.''

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department, along with school administrators, were expected to hold a 3 p.m. news conference at Toro Canyon Middle School to give an update on the situation.
