The pandemic may have forced the official Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk for breast cancer to be postponed, but that didn't stop thousands of would-be participants from donning pink and creating their own routes on what would have been the weekend of the walk.

Particpants in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk are required to raise $2300, and many do fundraisers year-round to earn the funds for the event, as well as train for the event, which sees participants walk 60 miles over 3 days.

Nicole Lavallee, of Riverside, along with her best friend Frances Tessers-Davenport of Rancho Cucamonga, walks in the San Diego event every year. They've also walked in Dallas, Boston, and were hoping to add Chicago to the list this year, but due to the pandemic, chose to use the weekend of the cancelled San Diego as a training walk for next year's festivities. Their posts on social media reminded friends and family that they could still contribute to fundraising for next year's walk.

During the walk, drivers who recognized walking "teams" dressed in pink, along with the signature pink ribbon for breast cancer awareness, honked their horns as encouragement to the walkers. Several groups of walkers, connected by an unofficial facebook page, also met up with other teams at varying points along their chosen routes.
