After falling off a horse while riding in Montana, resulting in a hospital stay and a couple of postponed shows, Ashley McBryde got back in the saddle and resumed her headlining tour at the House of Blues, San Diego, Sunday night (October 3rd), in between opening shows for Luke Combs.
Support act Priscilla Block (who shared that she was born in Lake Arrowhead before moving to North Carolina as a child) owned the stage with a self-assuredness that reveals that she knows exactly who she is, and Ashley McBryde was equally as confident in her performance. Ashley admitted that she was moving a little slower than normal, but her talent is great enough that her music doesn't require theatrics or extraneous production.
Of course, singles like "Girl Goin' Nowhere," "One Night Standards," and "Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega" had the crowd singing along, but a special treat came by way of a new song called "Whiskey and Country Music," which Ashley promised would be on her forthcoming third album. Fan favorites like "Shut Up Sheila," and "Martha Devine" were also enthusiastically received.
Between lockdown and her accident, Ashley displayed a renewed sense of gratitude for being on stage and performing was evident, especially during songs like "Luckiest S.O.B.," and closing numbers "Home Sweet Highway" and "Sparrow." And the response from the crowd made it clear that they, too, were very, very glad to have Ashley back on stage.
