Dustin May had everything working for him Monday afternoon against the Padres, as he twirled a gem in the Cardinals' 3-0 win at Busch Stadium. The Padres' former NL west foe carried a perfect game into the 7th inning, that was broken up by Fernando Tatis Jr.'s leadoff walk. May's no-hitter remained intact until Manny Machado's one out single put runners on the corners with Gavin Sheets representing the tying run at the plate, but the lefty slugger grounded into an inning ending double play, extinguishing the Padres' best, and only real threat of the game. May would go on to pitch a one-hit shutout against the Padres. Craig Stammen announced earlier in the day that the team had decided to use Wandy Peralta as an opener, followed by Lucas Giolito pitching in bulk as the two of the first three hitters in St. Louis' lineup are left-handed. Peralta did his part, retiring the first three batters of the game in order on just 11 pitches. After pitching two scoreless innings, Jimmy Crooks put the Cardinals on the board with a 2-run double in the 4th inning. Alec Burleson added an RBI-double off Giolito in the 5th inning, driving in the third and final run of the game. Giolito ended the night allowing 7 hits, 3 walks and 3 earned runs over 5 innings, as his struggles continued. Michael King starts for the Padres on Tuesday.
