Despite another tough night at the plate in which the Padres only had five hits, they came away victorious on Saturday night, defeating the Mets 3-2. After falling behind 1-0 in the 2nd inning, Fernando Tatis Jr. tied the game in the 3rd with an RBI-single back up the middle that fortunately bounced off of second base and ricocheted into right field. It was a bounce that finally went the Padres' way, literally. Griffin Canning and Nolan McLean each allowed just one run, as the game was tight heading into the late innings. Bradgley Rodriguez game up a solo home run to Marcus Semien in the top of the 7th inning, putting the Mets back on top by a run. It was the first long ball Rodriguez has surrendered in the Majors since debuting last season. After Xander Bogaerts and Miguel Andujar were both retired to begin the bottom of the 7th inning, Sung-Mun Song hit a slow dribbler between the pitcher and first baseman, that reliever Austin Warren wasn't able to field cleanly, and the speedy Song reached first base with two outs. Mired in an 0-30 slump, Freddy Fermin stepped up to the plate next with two outs, and blasted the first pitch he saw into the left field seats to give the Padres a 3-2 lead. It was an emotional moment for Fermin, one that can hopefully help him get going offensively. Jason Adam and Mason Miller followed with a scoreless inning each, and the Padres broke their six-game losing streak. Randy Vasquez will face Sean Manaea in Sunday's series finale.
