The Padres won their fifth game in a row on Sunday afternoon, and completed a 4-game sweep of the Rockies in the process with a 7-2 win. The Padres scored runs in the 1st and 2nd innings on sacrifice flies, while Ty France hit a solo homer in the 4th. The offense and bullpen picked up Nick Pivetta, who retired the first nine batters of the game before exiting in the middle of the first at-bat of the 4th inning with what was termed right elbow stiffness. It was a moment that surely has the organization concerned about their top starter, though Craig Stammen said after the game that the team was being cautious and felt like they caught it early. Nick Pivetta declined to go into much detail when he spoke after the game. Former Padre Brett Sullivan hit a 2-run double in the 5th to make it a 3-2 game, but that would be as close as the Rockies would get, as Manny Machado immediately answered with an RBI-single in the bottom of the 5th, and Ramon Laureano blasted a 2-run homer in the 6th. Jackson Merrill also got in on the fun, putting the finishing touches on the score with a solo homer in the 7th. The Padres improved to 10-6 on the season, and will enjoy a day off on Monday before hosting the Mariners beginning on Tuesday.
