The Padres lost to the Mets 7-3 on Sunday afternoon to lose their fourth series in a row. Randy Vasquez allowed 10 baserunners in 4+ innings, with 4 runs scored. With the Padres trailing 4-0 in the 5th inning, Freddy Fermin hit a 2-run home run, his second in as many games, to cut the lead in half. Immediately following Fermin's homer, Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled to left field, and later in the inning with two outs, was thrown out trying to steal third base to end the potential threat. As has been the case recently with the Padres, they gave those 2 runs right back, with the Mets immediately scoring 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning to go back up by four runs. The struggles of the offense continued to be the story of the game, as the Padres went 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base, while Fernando Tatis Jr., Jackson Merrill, Manny Machado and Xander Bogaerts combined for just 3 hits in 16 plate appearances, while not scoring or driving in any runs. Miguel Andujar departed the game early with a hamstring injury, and Craig Stammen said after the game that they'll need to be cautious with him moving forward, but wasn't sure if he'd need to go on the IL. The Padres dropped to 33-31 with the loss, and will host the Reds beginning on Monday.
