Police searching for man who stole car containing 30 vials of COVID-19 vaccine

Police are searching for a car containing $10,000 worth of COVID-19 vaccines.

Florida authorities said a man stole a car filled with 30 vials of the vaccine on Wednesday.

Per a statement by the Plant City Police Department, the vehicle is a 2018 gray Hyundai Accent. It was stolen from the Strawberry Festival Grounds parking lot around 3 p.m.

WTVJ reports that the car contained 30 vials, all of which were refrigerated at the time of theft. They were set to be distributed at a vaccination site at the grounds.

Police noted that the keys were left in the ignition.

A nationwide alert was placed on the vehicle, which features a Florida license plate: NPJJ58.

On Thursday, police also released surveillance video of the suspect on Facebook. He is described as a male in his early 20s with long hair. They are requesting community assistance regarding the matter.
