PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one out of three adults age 65 and older fall each year.

The CDC estimates that up to 30 percent of adults who fall injure themselves seriously enough to limit their independence and increase their risk for premature death.

Here are some tips to avoid falls:

- Eliminate slippery rugs.- Arrange furniture and eliminate clutter so you have a clear path through your home. - Skip the heels, shoes with slick soles. - Don't forget the importance of lighting. Install adequate lighting in stairwells, hallways, bedrooms, bathrooms, and use night lights.
