PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — We all know that exercising is important, but we sometimes forget what effects it has on our bodies.

Any amount of activity is better than none. In fact, exercising at a moderate intensity for at least 150 minutes per week offers substantial health benefits: it can help you lower your blood sugar levels as well as your risk for heart disease.

Supplementing your aerobic activity with strength exercises two days a week can further lower your risk of developing heart disease. If you lose weight, you might be able to use a smaller amount of diabetes medicine.

Lifestyle changes, including exercise, may also help lower your dosage of blood pressure medication. Additionally, exercise can help you reduce stress and feel relaxed, while improving balance and strength.
