Acting Police Commissioner Christine Coulter says a big reason why the girl turned herself in is because police released surveillance video of her inside the victim's house.
"Family saw the video and identified her as the person in the video and then made arrangements through the attorney to have her come in," Coulter said.
Coulter says no charges have been filed yet, and they're not looking for anyone else at the moment.
Information about the motive, and what happened leading up to Chernoff’s death, has not yet been released.
Chernoff was well known in the animal-rescue community. The Pennsylvania SPCA said it was taking in nine cats, three turtles and two frogs that he cared for.
