Having a clean house is more important than ever, but surfaces need to be disinfected to kill viruses.
Dr. Robert Laumbach, associate professor at the Rutgers School of Public Health’s Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences Institute, says a cleaner containing bleach is best, but if you can’t find one, other products will do.
“Alcohol itself, you know the idea of hand sanitizer, 60% alcohol, or use rubbing alcohol on surfaces or hydrogen peroxide is also probably good,” Laumbach said.
Just don’t mix the cleaners.
A combination of bleach and ammonia, for example, can produce noxious fumes.
If you have bleach, not in one of the cleaning products you have, you can mix a third of a cup of bleach with a gallon of water that can be used to disinfect the counter or door knobs to kill coronavirus.
