GLENMOORE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Fire officials in Chester County are investigating the cause of an apartment building fire that forced 75 people out of their homes in the middle of the night.

Flames broke out at one of the buildings at the ReNew Glenmoore Apartments, by Route 100 near Ludwig’s Corner, shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday.

"When I looked at the next building, I felt heat coming in my window," said Lisa Pignataro, who lives in a building adjacent to the one that was on fire. "And I looked out the one window, and all I saw was orange."

Authorities say firefighters from several companies along with officers from the West Vincent and Upper Uwchlan police departments were first on the scene.

"They went in and started to evacuate," explained West Vincent Police Chief Michael Swininger. "I spoke to [one of the officers>. He said he could hear the fire above them and knew they had to get everyone out quick. They did a great job and saved lives."

The fire was contained to the one building and placed under control. Ludwig's Corner Fire Company Chief Jeff Kimes said no one was hurt and most of the 75 people who were displaced found a place to go. Six to 10 families, he said, needed assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Kimes said the fire alarms in the building were working.
