Around 9:30 p.m., three men came in through the back door, left open by an empoyee taking out trash, at the Chipotle located at the Roosevelt Mall in Northeast Philadelphia. One of them was armed with a gun.
"They took money from several cash registers. They also took money from a safe in the back. That money was estimate to be about $4,000," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
"They were all shaken up, but they were all strong," he said. "They did it smartly. They were all calm. And nothing happened to them."
Police think these same men were involved in two other armed robberies at Popeye's locations, one on Friday on Adams Avenue, and the other on Saturday near 10th Street and Wyoming Avenue.
Investigators think they were going to rob the Popeye's next door to this Chipotle but changed plans at the last minute.
Police want the public to look at the surveillance video above and see if they recognize the men involved. Their mannerisms, their clothes — anything can be a clue, according to Northeast Detective Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum.
"You have your average ski mask, or mask covering the lower face. One's yellow. The other was pink and green last night, like a half-and-half mask — that one was from the Chipotle. That sticks out, that's something unique," he said.
Rosenbaum noted the gunmen are very organized, too. He believes one of the men may be a former employee who knows how the closing operations work.
"They're more organized than your everyday robbery," he said. "They run in concert; they're timing is down. They're in and out within a couple minutes. They knew that alarm was hit — you'd think they would have fled the store, but they didn't."
Although the men were armed, Rosenbaum said they have not used their weapons yet. He also commended all of the employees for staying calm and not putting up a fight, which he said is the right thing to do in this situation.
Police are also looking at video surveillance at the stores' exteriors to see if the gunmen cased the places beforehand.
