2 dead, several injured in separate Fourth of July weekend shootings

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Several people are injured, and two men are dead following a violent Fourth of July weekend in the city.




Around 4 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a report of gunfire along the 500 block of E. Wyoming Avenue. When they arrived, they found a 27-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died.

No arrests have been made. An investigation is underway.

Just before 7 a.m. on Sunday, Philadelphia police found a man suffering from gunshot wounds on South Salford Street near Ludlow Street in West Philly. He was brought to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead about half an hour later. The homicide unit is investigating.

Just before midnight on Saturday, police said a 63-year-old man was shot eight times, and a 33-year-old man was shot four times in North Philadelphia. Police said the shots were fired near 24th Street and Lehigh Avenue, but they have not made any arrests. Their conditions are unknown.

Around 10:30 p.m., police found a 33-year-old man shot twice in an unspecified location in the 19th District of West Philly. He’s in stable condition. Police are trying to determine a motive.

Around the same time, a 51-year-old man walked into a hospital in the Northeast after being shot in the foot.

Investigators said he tried to break up a fight when someone involved pulled out a gun and hit him on the head.

The gunman then chased him and shot him in the foot. Police are looking for a 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-8 man with a medium complexion. They believe he is in his 20s with a slim build, a mustache and a goatee.

And around 10 p.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old was shot twice inside a North Philadelphia basement.
