PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two adults were killed and a toddler was wounded after a shooting Saturday afternoon in the Overbrook section of Philadelphia.

According to authorities, it happened on 55th Street near Lansdowne Avenue just after 2:20 p.m. Two 23-year-old men and a three-year-old boy were standing near a black Nissan Altima when a white SUV came from nearby Hunter Street.

"Two males exited the vehicle," said Deputy Police Commissioner Ben Naish. "They both began shooting at both of the adults, they got back into the vehicle and they fled southbound on 55th Street."

The adults were shot multiple times in various parts of the body, while a three-year-old was struck three times in the leg.

All three victims were rushed to Penn Presbyterian Hospital on the back of a pickup truck. The adults were pronounced dead upon arrival, while the boy was placed in stable condition. Police said a weapon was recovered. No arrests have been made at this time.

Naish said a preliminary investigation is underway, and that police are looking for the white SUV.

According to neighbors, one of the victims was trying to sell a car, but it is not known if that had to do with the shooting.

Neighbors described the street as typically quiet, and said one of the victims was a known resident.

"I was asleep, I heard this big boom," recalled one person. "I thought I was dreaming until I came outside and I saw there were bodies out here."

"Every act of gun violence is tragic. However, it is especially disturbing and sickening when the victims are among our most vulnerable," said Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw in a statement.

"We should never tolerate violence against our children, as all of us — not just the police — are charged with the responsibility to keep them safe from danger and harm."

CORRECTION: A previous version of this story listed one of the victims as 24 years old. According to police reports, both adult victims were 23.
