PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two people have been shot and killed in separate shootings in Philadelphia, while a teen was hurt in a shooting in front of a high school Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
A woman died after being shot in the head in North Philadelphia. The shooting happened at about 4:20 p.m. on North Broad Street near 69th Avenue in the West Oak Lane neighborhood.
Authorities said a 34-year-old man shot the woman, who was 28. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Police said they made an arrest, and they have recovered a weapon. There was no initial word on any charges.
The second deadly shooting happened less than an hour later at the corner of South 34th Street and Grays Ferry Avenue in South Philadelphia's Grays Ferry neighborhood.
According to police, someone shot a 27-year-old man five times. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 5:30 p.m.
Investigators recovered a pair of guns at the crime scene, but did not initially arrest a suspect. Authorities closed Grays Ferry Avenue to conduct the investigation.
Police said it was just before 3 p.m. Tuesday when a 15-year-old boy was shot in his shin in front of Vaux Big Picture High School near the corner of North 23rd and Master Streets in the Sharswood neighborhood of North Philadelphia.
Rescue crews took the boy to Temple University Hospital, where he was placed in stable condition. No arrests were initially made on scene.
