PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- The Broad Street Run is getting pushed back until the fall because of the continued spread of COVID-19 in Philadelphia and across the United States. The race usually takes place the first weekend in May.

"At this time, it is clear that we could not safely hold the Blue Cross Broad Street Run in May," organizers said in a statement.

There is no firm date set yet for this year's race.

They say that, whenever the race is rescheduled, they will work with the city of Philadelphia to ensure that public health and safety will be top priority.

"While the future trajectory of COVID-19 is still unknown, we are hopeful that we’ll be able to welcome you all this fall for the 2021 Broad Street Run."

Last year's race was postponed and then turned into a virtual run.

This year, there will be no lottery for registration. Instead, anyone who was registered in 2020 will have the opportunity to register for 2021 at a discounted rate.

Organizers have more details on their website.
