PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Looking to learn about the American Revolution in a non-overwhelming way?

Look no further than the Museum of the American Revolution, located at 101 South 3rd Street in Old City.

Every second Sunday of the month, the museum offers a “Relaxed Experience Morning” from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. to give people with sensory issues a chance to explore the museum galleries in a crowd-free environment.

Because it is a Revolutionary-themed museum, loud sounds of guns and cannons often go off.

Additionally, some of the rooms are small and get easily crowded, which is why the museum opens an hour early and incorporates lowered sound effects and higher light levels for a more sensory-friendly experience, explained museum employee Rebecca Franco.

She feels this program is key in helping make sure families can have a fun and positive experience at the museum.

“Many families of a person who is neurodiverse do not get to experience trips to the museum or days out, so having this kind of program is important for them as well,” Franco said.

Guests who reserve tickets in advance will be admitted free of charge.
