PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Montgomery County father was found guilty of first-degree murder in the sexual assault and death of his 10-month-old daughter nearly two years ago.
Austin Stevens, 31, was automatically sentenced to life in prison on Thursday.
According to officials, Stevens told investigators that his daughter fell in the tub, but upon further examination, officials found signs of rape.
Her cause of death was determined to blunt force trauma to the head. Her injuries were consistent with being shaken and hit against something at least twice.
Prosecutors said Stevens waited more than an hour to call 911 after the child became unresponsive in his Lower Providence apartment. During that hour, they said he conducted an online search for “infant not breathing” and “how do you know a baby is dead?” They say he also sent flirtatious texts to another woman.
