PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Awbury Arboretum in Germantown has made an open call for artists to have their work displayed in a unique way.
The 56-acre arboretum’s grounds of picturesque green space include a gallery, and the organization that runs it also recently started an art program.
“We formed an official art committee at the end of 2021, and then had our first show in 2022,” said Awbury Arboretum Board of Directors Vice-Chair Sara Robbins.
She says the works they feature come from a diverse community, and the art comes in a number of forms, from paintings to photographs.
Robbins adds that artists have highly sought out their art show, which is celebrating its one-year anniversary.
She said that although it’s experiencing a surge in popularity, they still welcome artists to submit their work for a chance to have it displayed for a month.
“We try and choose people who are local from the community, and it’s great if their art takes part in nature, but it’s not mandatory by any means,” Robbins said.
She added they will host a special reception for all featured artists.
The latest display is "Interconnected: A Creative Meditation on the Web of Life." Focusing on art by selected members of Artessa Alliance, it runs through Feb. 26.
The gallery and arboretum are free for visitors. Click here for information on how to submit your art.
