PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Harriton High School on the Main Line has suspended its varsity football program, just days before the second game of the season.
Officials cited concerns over health and safety, given low player numbers.
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Harriton’s principal and athletic director sent a letter to parents saying the Lower Merion School District is “committed to providing opportunities for football in the future and to identifying a sustainable path forward.”
The school board has started the process of merging the football programs at Harriton and Lower Merion High but is waiting for approval from state athletic officials.
