PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a male body found Monday in a Philadelphia warehouse as escaped prisoner Gino Hagenkotter.

Hagenkotter, 34, was an inmate at Riverside Correctional Facility. He escaped from custody on Nov. 30 while on a work assignment in the orchard behind Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center. He asked to use the bathroom, and officials say that’s when he hopped a fence and left the property.

On Dec. 11, at about 2:28 p.m., police responded to a report of an unresponsive male in a warehouse on the 1100 block of East Venango Street, about six miles away from the site of Hagenkotter’s escape. Medics pronounced the man dead on location.

The male had no identification on him, but the Medical Examiner’s Office reported to the Philadelphia Police Department on Tuesday that a fingerprint analysis positively identified him as the escapee.

The cause of death is currently under investigation.
