CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Officials in Camden celebrated the opening of a first-of-its-kind mixed-use housing and Virtua Health primary care facility on Thursday.
Oliver Station, right next to PATCO’s Ferry Ave Station, is home to nearly 50 apartments for residents 55 and older who meet income limits.
Lettie Draine moved in after living across the street, where she watched it come to fruition.
“Everyday I was watching this grow,” she said. “I was praying on it, can I have one?”
She said the building is safe, secure, and that gives her peace of mind.
“I just love it,” said Draine. “It’s like a whole other world on the other side of the street.”
Virtua Chief Medical Officer Dr Sam Weiner also said convenience is a big perk because of the Virtua Health primary care facility downstairs.
“This will be everything from wellness and prevention, immunizations, behavioral health counseling,” he said.
Doctors at the facility will also work closely with nearby Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to ensure patients get all the care they need.
The $24 million facility is the first of its kind in South Jersey and Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen said there are more to come.
