PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Chester County couple is facing involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with the death of their 4-year-old son last year.

Jason Moore, 36, and Amanda Moore, 35, both of Thorndale, turned themselves in last week on charges that they exposed children to fentanyl and other opioids. Investigators said their son died from fentanyl poisoning.

The Caln Township Police Department responded to a home in November 2022 for a report of an unresponsive child. The boy was pronounced dead at CHOP in King of Prussia shortly thereafter.

In January, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office determined the boy died by homicide, via fentanyl toxicity. Investigators said they found trace amounts of fentanyl on the stick portion of a lollipop that the boy had been eating the day he died.

Prosecutors said the Moores left the home around 7 a.m. that day and forced their 13-year-old son to stay home from school to watch the 4-year-old and their other toddler, age 3. Nearly four hours later, the teen texted Amanda Moore saying he couldn’t wake up the boy.

Jason Moore allegedly rushed home to clean up drug paraphernalia before calling 911. Investigators said the child appeared to be “deceased for some time” before he was found by his older brother.

Chester County District Attorney Deb Ryan said the parents “failed to meet even their most basic duties of responsibility and care.”

“This case sadly demonstrates the extreme dangers of this epidemic and its ongoing threat to our community,” she added.
