PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Deputy Commissioner Christine Coulter, the first woman to lead Philadelphia’s Police Department, retired Friday after more than 30 years on the job.
Coulter took charge of the department back in August 2019 after the sudden resignation of Richard Ross, and just months before Danielle Outlaw was selected to lead.
Before that, she served on patrol, narcotics, intelligence and investigations, among other special units.
During a retirement ceremony for her Friday, top brass from all branches of the force gathered outside the administration building to salute her, wish her well, and give her flowers with a final radio send-off.
