PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new fall festival in Old City kicks off on Second Street Sunday, highlighting the combination of pork and cider.

Cochon et Cidre will take place in the joint streeteries of Khyber Pass Pub and Royal Boucherie.

“We've been prepping for this for months,” said organizer Brian Lofink. “We’re super pumped. We’re gonna have a whole pig outside here. And then also you can be able to order all pork-centric items from our kitchens.

“The whole event was just gonna be focusing on celebrating pork.”

The festival is based on the concept of a traditional boucherie.

“In Louisiana, a boucherie is a communal tradition involving a group of neighbors,” he explained, “kind of dividing the slaughtering, butchering and cooking of a whole pig.”

This pig and cider festival also takes place on the first day of Philly Cider Week, which runs from Oct. 23 to 30.

“Khyber will have all Pennsylvania local ciders, and Royal Boucherie will have French-focused ciders.”

And while most of the food being served on Sunday is pork, Lofink said there will also be some vegan items on the menu — and, of course, the Phillies on TV.
