DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A popular Delaware County trail has gotten a much needed facelift, which is part of a bigger plan for the whole East Coast.
The Chester Creek Trail is one of Delaware County’s most visited outdoor spaces, which is why thanks to grant money, the county made $375,000 in upgrades to the popular circuit trail.
“The Chester Creek Trail is truly a key part of our circuit trails and is one of our most popular outdoor sites,” said Delaware County Council member JoAnn Phillips, who was on hand Tuesday afternoon for the renovated trail’s ribbon-cutting.
“Whether you walk, bike or choose to recreate in a couple of different ways, the trail can accommodate that,” said Danielle Floyd, the county’s director of public works.
According to Floyd, those accommodations were made in a number of ways, at the trail hub in Middletown Township.
“We added ADA parking,” she detailed. “We put in storm water management features, which is important so that we can maintain water runoff. There are new plantings. All the split rail was replaced. We added a security camera so that we can maintain eyes on the site.”
Floyd said this wasn’t the end of development on the 3 1/2-mile trail that runs through Aston and Eddystone.
“We are planning to extend the trail even longer,” she shared. “Being able to have these sorts of places for people to come and enjoy what the county has to offer remains something that’s important to us.”
The plan is for the Chester Creek Trail to eventually connect to the East Coast Greenway, which will stretch from Florida to Maine.
