PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Delaware Division of Public Health has declared a measles outbreak after confirming the fourth case of the virus in the state.
All of the infected individuals are unvaccinated men in Kent County.
Health officials are doing contact tracing to determine if anyone else was exposed.
The outbreak comes as Pennsylvania is dealing with its own measles outbreak. There have been 120 cases since April — 72 of them in Lancaster County.
Measles is highly contagious. Symptoms prior to a rash include a cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. The virus can cause pneumonia, brain inflammation and even death.
The measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine is 97% effective at preventing measles.
