PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A former immigration officer from Delaware County pleaded guilty on Wednesday to federal bribery charges.
Authorities said Amara Dukuly of Brookhaven admitted that over the last decade, he took bribes from immigrants and promised to help them with adjustments to their status, such as green cards, work authorization documents, or visas.
In one case, took $6,000 in bribes from someone to remove a "terrorist" reference in their immigration record and instead "clean" his file.
According to prosecutors, Dukuly did not have the authority to do any of the things he promised to victims.
