ASTON, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Wednesday’s severe storms left two drivers dead in the Philadelphia suburbs, both killed by fallen trees.

A man in Aston, Delaware County was killed Wednesday evening after a tree fell onto his Chevy Cruise on Pennell Road near Mount Alverno Road, investigators said. Police and medics rushed over but said the victim, a man believed to be in his 70s, did not survive the impact.

The road was closed for hours as crews tried to get the victim out and investigate further. Police believe the victim couldn’t have done anything differently to avoid the tree.

Earlier in the day, around 1 p.m. in Collegeville, Montgomery County, authorities said a tree fell on a car at Ninth and Main streets. The person behind the wheel was a woman in her early 80s. Police said she did not survive her injuries.
