PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A retaining wall along a major interstate in South Jersey partially collapsed Thursday, causing some trouble for drivers. The New Jersey Department of Transportation says people can expect delays in the area for the foreseeable future.

The right lane on I-295 northbound, where it crosses over Essex Avenue, will be closed until further notice.

NJDOT says it will be necessary to stabilize the retaining wall, which shifted and partially collapsed. They say drivers should expect heavy delays on that road as well as Route 42.

The wall was built as part of a multimillion-dollar project called Direct Connection. The completion date is set for 2024.

Officials say that completion is "subject to change due to weather or other factors."
