PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Rich Uncle Pennybags, also known as the Monopoly Man, is moving to the Philadelphia suburbs, and properties all over the Main Line are up for grabs. A new edition of the board game Monopoly has made its debut, featuring Main Line properties in Delaware, Chester and Montgomery counties.
“You will see colleges and prep schools, public parks and spaces, a few recognizable businesses. You will see a little bit of everything,” said Scott Whitney, a VP at Top Trumps Inc., the company that manufactures Monopoly games under license from Hasbro.
“A few of our best-selling communities have been places like Greenwich, Connecticut, the Hamptons, Palm Springs — and now, hopefully, the Main Line, Pa., edition.”
Whitney says the Main Line is the 10th U.S. community edition they have done since they started a couple of years ago. And the highly sought-after properties, including gardens, universities and retailers, makes the Main Line ideal for the game.
Instead of the Pennsylvania, B&O, Reading, and Short Line railroads of the original, this edition features train stations along the commuter rail line, including Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, Glen Mills and Villanova.
The most expensive property on the board is not Boardwalk but Bryn Mawr College.
The least expensive? Montgomery County’s Dixon Meadow. (Sorry, Dixon Meadow.)
Whitney says people like to ask what’s the most commonly landed upon square on the board. Statistically, he said, it’s “red No. 3” — which, in the original game, is Illinois Avenue. In this edition, it’s the driving and license testing center Driven 2 Drive.
The Main Line Edition Monopoly board game is available at various participating Main Line stores.
