PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities have tracked down the 19-year-old they say fired the stray bullet that killed a man as he was eating Thanksgiving dinner with his family.
Kevon Clarke was taken into custody in Philadelphia Monday morning. He is facing murder charges and related offenses for the death of 25-year-old Edilberto Miguel Pelaez Moctezuma.
The victim was in a home at the corner of Arch and Basin streets celebrating Thanksgiving with his family. He was sitting at the table when a bullet came through the window and hit him.
Pelaez Moctezuma died from the injuries.
Police say Clarke lives near where the victim was shot.
Clarke had been kicked out of a different Thanksgiving celebration earlier that day. He was accused of stealing bottles of alcohol. Police say when someone went to get those bottles, there was gunfire, possibly from two other men seen in video footage.
Investigators say a bullet fired from Clarke’s location is the one that went through the window and killed Pelaez Moctezuma.
This is the second time in Norristown this year that an innocent bystander was killed by gun violence that they weren’t involved in.
Barry Fields, 51, was killed by a stray bullet in September. Police say Fields was sitting on his front steps on Astor Street when a gun battle broke out down the block.
