PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There is no way to predict exactly when we will get a COVID-19 vaccine.

But based on what those closest to the situation say, if everything goes perfectly in the third phase of clinical trials, we could get a limited emergency use authorization before the end of the year.

Even so, it's unlikely that the general public will have access to this vaccine until sometime in the middle of next year.

According to the scientists, we might get several hundred thousand doses that can cover some of our health care workers who are at highest risk early next year.

But this pandemic is something that we're going to be fighting without a vaccine for quite some time.

No matter what you hear, our best chance is wearing a mask, washing hands and social distancing. Right now, it is all we have.
