PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was killed Friday night in what police described as a shootout in North Philadelphia.

Officers said they heard gunshots around 20th and Susquehanna streets a little before 5 p.m.

When they arrived, they found a 35-year-old who had been shot several times, including in his stomach.

The man was rushed to a hospital, where he died.

Police Inspector D.F. Pace said they believe there was a shootout between the 35-year-old and one other person, but other people were in the area at the time — one person, he said, got into the victim’s car and drove off.

“That person was stopped at the hospital, and several other people were detained there. So at this particular time, we have one person who is dead from this shooting; we have one person — at least one other person — who we believe was a shooter at large at this time,” Pace said.

Police did not identify the victim, any of the people detained, or the other potential shooter.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call the police tip line at 215-686-8477.
