PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man who was charged with shooting his girlfriend and baby nearly two years ago pleaded guilty Thursday morning, telling the judge, “it was my fault”.

Desmond Brunson admitted to judge Zachary Shaffer he shot his 33-year-old girlfriend and 1-year-old daughter one night in October of 2021 in their rowhome in Kingsessing.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and a weapons charge.

Prosecutors said he lied to them and told three different stories – saying at first he didn’t know how they were shot then, how he heard the shooting but was upstairs and, lastly, that he picked up the gun and it went off. But police say after further investigation they figured out Brunson shot his girlfriend and injured the baby.

On Thursday, Brunson told Shaffer he did shoot the two.

His former girlfriend, who was shot twice in the back, is paralyzed, but the baby is okay – she had suffered a graze wound to the stomach.

Brunson is expected to be sentenced in June.
