PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The ketogenic diet, touted as a great way to lose weight, has surged in popularity primarily because many adherents believe the low-carb, high-fat, moderate-protein diet gets results. But there is a problem: It can be high in saturated fats, which are bad for your heart.
So, what about a plant-based keto diet? It’s the same concept, but with fewer saturated fats. You can achieve similar results with plant-based, unsaturated fats — like olive oil and avocado.
You can also get plenty of plant-based protein with nuts, tofu and seeds. Certainly, there are advantages and disadvantages to various diets, but plant-based choices make a great deal of sense when it comes to overall health.
