PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Neuroscientists are trained to look at the cells in the nervous system, and their work is often centered around how the brain functions. Some have called the human brain one of the last frontiers of discovery.
Researchers at MIT have been studying how our brains process music. Much of their work is in the auditory cortex, and they have now identified specific nerve cells that don’t just recognize music, but actually respond only to singing.
This research is clearly fascinating, but the long-term goal is to lead to treatments that can help those who have experienced damage to areas of their brain.
