PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Spinal cord injuries can have a devastating impact. Every case is unique, but damage to the spinal cord often leads to loss of function and paralysis.
Over the last 20 years, numerous studies have led to a wide variety of tools designed to help those with spinal cord injuries regain as much function as possible.
A new report in the journal Nature focuses on scientists who use deep brain stimulation on a part of the brain called the lateral hypothalamus. They believe specifically targeting certain regions of the brain can help with recovery — especially when used early in treatment.
