PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two men have been arrested and charged in connection to a carjacking and burglary of a small West Philadelphia pharmacy last month.

Officials say Nassir Boyd, 21, and Saimir Brown, 22, are facing felony charges for burglary and other related offenses following the looting that took place last month after a judge’s dismissal of charges against former police officer Mark Dial in the shooting death of Eddie Irizarry.

They say on Sept. 24, just a few days before the unrest, Brown and three other suspects carjacked two people.

Three days later, on Sept. 27, Assistant District Attorney Robert Goggins of the District Attorney’s Gun Violence Task Force says the pair were part of an “opportunistic” group who broke into the Olive Tree Pharmacy in West Philly and stole thousands of oxycodone and Percocet pills before fleeing the scene.

Goggins says the getaway car they used was the one obtained in the Sept. 24 carjacking.

Officials say Brown and Boyd belong to a violent street gang that operates in the area. They are both being held on more than $1 million in bail.

Brown is being charged with multiple accounts of aggravated assault, conspiracy, burglary, and additional charges. Boyd is facing charges for criminal trespass, conspiracy, theft by unlawful taking, and other charges.

Officials say they are looking for other individuals who may have been involved in the incident, as the investigation remains ongoing.

Bob Listenbee says the DA’s Victims Services Unit is available to help small business owners impacted by the looting.

“Some of the people have had their entire livelihoods turned upside down and we want to stress that we want to do what we can to support them,” Listenbee said.
