PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office said it has reached a settlement with the Montgomery County SPCA that includes a major shake-up to the nonprofit's leadership and standard practices.
Attorney General Dave Sunday's office began a probe in late 2024 after receiving tips about poor kennel conditions, unfair treatment of animals, and insufficient training for personnel.
Their investigation found that the Montco SPCA euthanized animals when it may have been unnecessary or premature. They also found that the organization was not allocating enough donated funds towards maintenance, training or care.
The Montco SPCA was forced to pay more than $21,000 in penalties and costs. Moreover, the board and CEO have been replaced, bylaws and policies have been revised, and facility improvements are underway. Officials said there are plans to build at least one new shelter.
KYW has reached out to the Montco SPCA for comment and is waiting to hear back.
